For so much negativity around her performance in earlier screenings, she was probably the biggest surprise of the film. She was wonderful in the first two Acts, taking Neve Campbell's performance from 1996 and updating it to today's generation. I particularly like the scene in the high school with Trevor, he boy friend with her "Let someone go" speech. Then in Act 3, she makes a huge transition from the sweet innocent cousin of our heroine to a electricified psychotic that will kill two of her own family members to reach fame. She was a complete knockout as the killer side of Jill. She was deliciously campy. I thought she would be very fake and childish in the killer scenes, but it was a pleasant surprise to say the opposite.
I loved Hayden, very hip, fun interesting character with a scene that vibrates from wall to wall, but Emma had more of an impact on me because it was so unexpected from Roberts. Hayden was chosen as the fan favorite of the board last summer (which is ridiculous), and when the extended trailer came out I was anticipating Hayden's role as well, but I was going in with an open mind.
Roberts shares the leading status with the original trio, and she's worthy of it. I have all four as leading right now, but I may move Cox/Arquette to supporting. I'd actually rank Roberts above Neve, too, my top performances of the film:
Courteney Cox (by far)>>>>>>>Emma Roberts>Neve Campell>>>Panettiere>>>Shelton>Arquette

Why Scream 3 Is The Best Of The Scream Saga:
. The complete second half of the film is literally flawless (post-Sidney comes out of hiding). The first 25 minutes are also pretty flawless, too, but not in the same park as the second half's brilliance. The only time it makes any mistakes is the 20 minute gap between Sarah Darling and Jennifer's house explosion <- it's not bad ...it's like 65% great, 35% flawed.
. The three intertwined storylines (Sidney's metal heath, Maureen Prescott's past, and Stab 3) makes for a very strong driven narrative.
. Has the strongest message of all four films (even though Scream 4's is very strong.) The message of the movie -> the first two asked the question are movies responsible for people killing? Most blame Hollywood for influencing the youth of America to be violent murders. The movies themselves don't, but the drama behind the scenes is enough to start a murdering bloodbath. Scream 3 shows us Sidney Prescott, a woman has lived through two killing sprees and has her life intertwined in this Hollywood drama. She, also, is in a bad mental state as a result. Yet, she is able to put the darkness aside from her past and move on with her life. You kill because you chose to...the movies, the people behind the movies, don't matter...it's your journey....you're decision.
. The role of Sidney was handled the best. Her scenes were crucial to her character development; there was no scene that felt like they edited in as a "filler" to get to the finale like the previous films.
. Scream 3 was the most emotional of the four.
. It was more brave than the first two and the fourth by having a male opening victim, let alone a recurring character who was the hero of the previous film.
. Neve Campbell's performance was flawless. The best acting I've ever seen.
. It was the funniest of the four without using the "spoof" to be funny.
. I think it’s the scariest of the four. Very thrilling, as much as terror (Blood doesn't matter...this is Scream not Saw).
. It was without a doubt the most surprising.
. I like the "adult society" plot it has compared to the first two and fourth who were about high school world and college life.
. It was the most plot heavy of the four, and I like plot; twists.
. The best climax/finale of the series. Brutal.
. Best production values: film editing, art direction, sound mixing, sound editing, visual effects, and the score! Scream 2 had slightly better cinematography and costume design.
. Contains the best supporting character in the entire series (excluding the trio in the earlier films), yes I'm talking to you Jennifer.
. The whole deja vu to Woodsboro and Sidney on the Stab 3 set was creepy and very effective. It goes back to the original and pulls out the unseen.
. Finds the equilibrium that 1, 2, and 4 couldn't find. It was terrifying, but you thoroughly enjoyed it.
.The killer had the best and most motivation to want Sidney dead out of the seven killers.
. The character development with the main three was a perfect epilogue. Wrapped up the story with loose ends being cut off while incorporating a little bit of "let the viewer decide." The new cast was different from the first sequel and the third sequel; in Scream 2 and Scream 4 the characters were so sketched out to be likeable with quirky personalities, it made them unlikeable. In Scream 3 they weren’t designed to be likeable; the audience was allowed to like new characters in Scream 3 on their own.
. The fact that it was original. This is more-so pointing to Scream 2, than the original even though in some ways the original was vastly similar to Halloween. Scream 4 was making fun of remakes so, I'm not sure if I can fault it for homaging the first three in every scene. The clever plot with the Stab 3 cast being offed as they are in the script; life imitating art.

Scream 4 Review
'Scream 4' is the latest installment in the vastly popular 'Scream' franchise. The original film spoofed the what horror genre was in the '90s. It was a huge hit. After 'Scream 3' wrapped up the series, Scream fans never expected to be receiving a fourth film, until Kevin Williamson came up with the perfect idea: making fun of what the horror genre is vastly made up of today…remakes.
The script by Kevin Williamson is pure genius; it combines the original cast members with a "new" version of each character of the 1996 'Scream.' It balances the leading original cast with this new generation quite effectively. Aside from the obvious witty dialogue, the wonderful thing about Williamson's writing is the little details he adds to the story. For example, there's a moment where the Deputy of Woodsboro asks Sidney if she remembers her from High School (Sidney doesn't remember going to school with her). "I was a lost boy and you played…..Tiger Lily."
The cast is no letdown. The 'Scream' Series has always attracted good actors, something most horror film series fail to do. Neve Campbell returns to the leading role of Sidney Prescott and while she is very effective, she doesn't have the meat to achieve the powerhouse performance she did in the previous installment. Courteney Cox tears back into Gale Weathers, and it's the definition of a knockout performance. Her character has undergone much character development over the series (she evolved from a nasty reporter to a woman in love). She blends the two in this one and she wraps arguably her best performance around her finger. David Arquette rounds out the surviving trio, and he does solid job, although gets overshadowed by his two leading ladies.
The standouts from the new cast were Hayden Panettiere, Marley Shelton, and Emma Roberts. Panettiere adds as much flavor as she can to her character playing Kirby the spunky best friend of Sidney's cousin Jill, who is played by Emma Roberts delivers a very surprising and disturbing performance. Marley Shelton is a alliance to the new cast, as she plays the creepy Deputy Judy Hicks. Great acting from the entire new cast, they form a true ensemble.
The thing that makes Scream 4 so special is that it not only continues the story of Sidney, Gale, and Dewey and begins the story of the new cast, but it combines and honors the first three films. It's almost like one big celebration of Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 3. It's a cherished treat for Scream fans. This is what remakes should try to do instead of just copy the original word-for-word.
To all Scream fans who have counted down 362 days since the release date was announced, shouldn't be too disappointed here. 'Scream 4' is a nice entry to my favorite movie series of all-time. The only problems fans may run into when seeing Scream 4 is the new tone of the film. They skewed the tone of a Scream film and the tone of a regular teen slasher Hollywood would produce today; 10/10.

Sunday
Picking up the pieces.
Last week, I posted a very interesting blog post; I basically broke down from anger of Scream 3's criticism on IMDb.com. I guess having a near-emotional breakdown is the most proof I've ever had that I am a legit fan of the Scream trilogy, most importantly, Scream 3. My devastated self, I emailed a friend of mine, who is also a big fan of the trilogy. This is a very great reply, that really got me to calm down and not to care anymore...or at least as much.
These "fans" are Nothing to do with the series.
Either good or bad.
And neither are the creators for that matter.
My sister had this problem when she first joined a forum for one of her favorite tv shows(Torchwood)....She got really agitated and never went back there...But I felt it put her off the series she loved a little.
One of my big problems I have is with Behind the Scenes and interviews, as I tend to get more agitated by that stuff.
Alien 3 was one of my favorite movies and I found out the director and pretty much everybody involved hated it.
Another third film that's considered inferior..coincidence?
Just take the finished work and always concentrate on that...ignore everything else...Because frankly people's opinions have more plot holes than any movie I could find!
Care and think about the painting, not the artist or the people in the audience.
And this is not the first time I have been angry at Mr Craven.
He has always looked down on the Nightmare On Elm Street films, for years, and I quote "Couldn't see anything in them".... yet on the one of the more recent documentaries he says that part 4 was a very talented and good film.I love the Scream series, and Part 3 is my favorite. I love the whole series, and just wish everyone else could so there was much more peace, but drama doesn't solve anything. So what? I have a few nerds on the Internet harassing me because of my honest opinion. At least I'm not a poser.
