My Big Four Film Performances
Neve Campbell, Scream 3

Why Scream 3 Is The Best Of The Scream Saga:
. The complete second half of the film is literally flawless (post-Sidney comes out of hiding). The first 25 minutes are also pretty flawless, too, but not in the same park as the second half's brilliance. The only time it makes any mistakes is the 20 minute gap between Sarah Darling and Jennifer's house explosion <- it's not bad ...it's like 65% great, 35% flawed.
. The three intertwined storylines (Sidney's metal heath, Maureen Prescott's past, and Stab 3) makes for a very strong driven narrative.
. Has the strongest message of all four films (even though Scream 4's is very strong.) The message of the movie -> the first two asked the question are movies responsible for people killing? Most blame Hollywood for influencing the youth of America to be violent murders. The movies themselves don't, but the drama behind the scenes is enough to start a murdering bloodbath. Scream 3 shows us Sidney Prescott, a woman has lived through two killing sprees and has her life intertwined in this Hollywood drama. She, also, is in a bad mental state as a result. Yet, she is able to put the darkness aside from her past and move on with her life. You kill because you chose to...the movies, the people behind the movies, don't matter...it's your journey....you're decision.
. The role of Sidney was handled the best. Her scenes were crucial to her character development; there was no scene that felt like they edited in as a "filler" to get to the finale like the previous films.
. Scream 3 was the most emotional of the four.
. It was more brave than the first two and the fourth by having a male opening victim, let alone a recurring character who was the hero of the previous film.
. Neve Campbell's performance was flawless. The best acting I've ever seen.
. It was the funniest of the four without using the "spoof" to be funny.
. I think it’s the scariest of the four. Very thrilling, as much as terror (Blood doesn't matter...this is Scream not Saw).
. It was without a doubt the most surprising.
. I like the "adult society" plot it has compared to the first two and fourth who were about high school world and college life.
. It was the most plot heavy of the four, and I like plot; twists.
. The best climax/finale of the series. Brutal.
. Best production values: film editing, art direction, sound mixing, sound editing, visual effects, and the score! Scream 2 had slightly better cinematography and costume design.
. Contains the best supporting character in the entire series (excluding the trio in the earlier films), yes I'm talking to you Jennifer.
. The whole deja vu to Woodsboro and Sidney on the Stab 3 set was creepy and very effective. It goes back to the original and pulls out the unseen.
. Finds the equilibrium that 1, 2, and 4 couldn't find. It was terrifying, but you thoroughly enjoyed it.
.The killer had the best and most motivation to want Sidney dead out of the seven killers.
. The character development with the main three was a perfect epilogue. Wrapped up the story with loose ends being cut off while incorporating a little bit of "let the viewer decide." The new cast was different from the first sequel and the third sequel; in Scream 2 and Scream 4 the characters were so sketched out to be likeable with quirky personalities, it made them unlikeable. In Scream 3 they weren’t designed to be likeable; the audience was allowed to like new characters in Scream 3 on their own.
. The fact that it was original. This is more-so pointing to Scream 2, than the original even though in some ways the original was vastly similar to Halloween. Scream 4 was making fun of remakes so, I'm not sure if I can fault it for homaging the first three in every scene. The clever plot with the Stab 3 cast being offed as they are in the script; life imitating art.

Second "Scream 4" Teaser Poster
Via Wes Craven on Twitter today, this was confirmed as the second teaser poster. It's okay, average, honestly it looks fanmade. But it's okay, just as long as the cast one comes out soon. I think it's safe to say that the poster order is: Courteney>David>Neve>Emma>Hayden. They were singled out on this first one.
One of the good things about the poster is we get to see what order the screenshot credits go the forth time around:
David
Neve
Courteney
Emma
Hayden
Anthony
Allison
Adam
Rory
Marie
Erik
Mary
Marley
Nico
That's the list on the poster anyway. It didn't follow the first three films where the trio's names were the first three alphabetically by pure quiescence. The have the primary cast first (trio + Emma and Hayden), then the rest as per usual.
It's also nice to see Ehren Kruger listed as an Executive Producer =]

Allison Brie reshooting "Scream 4"
In Michigan, Scream 4 is going through some reshoots as the past two installments have. There has been rumors about what exactly Wes is reshooting (the ending and the opening), well it seems as though they are doing touch-ups on many different scenes.
Today Wes and Allison Brie tweeted pictures of the reshoots of Rebecca's (Brie) death scene that was exposed in the trailers. The death scene takes place in the garage of the hospital, I wonder how it's going to look if there is snow in one frame and the next frame there's a summer's night?

Jacki Weaver in "Animal Kingdom"
The winner of the National Board of Review award and a Golden Globe, Critic's Choice, and now Oscar nominee, it's fair to say that Jacki Weaver is thankful she did Animal Kingdom.
The marginally known Australian actress has been receiving praise right and left for her supporting work in the new crime drama. God knows, I disliked the film itself, but I enjoyed Weaver's performance, and you can still appreciate her performance. I think her performance is drugged down by my discontent with the film itself which is probably why she's so low in my top 10 (#8).
For playing a sociopath, Weaver sure makes the role of the mother sweet and charming; Weaver brings multiple layers to the character, which is what really makes the performance and the character to the film so special. It's a great group of ladies nominated this year, and I don't know if I'd have a problem with any of them winning (except for the category fraud of the True Grit star, Steinfield). I also found her to be one of the most quotable characters of 2010.
I especially adore these scenes:

Oscar Nominations Thoughts
So, as many of you know, I often become obsessed with award season and the Oscars. It's really a fine time of the year, filled with suspense, drama, disappoint, and a few laughs. Now that the nominations are out, I guess I can focus on the award show, then completely transition to 100% Scream 4.
But seeing as the nominations are announced, let's hear my thoughts. I thought they were okay. Simply nothing more. Why the freak was Inception left out of Best Director and Best Film Editing. It's a travesty that they were snubbed considering those two seemed like the strongest locks the film had, that still ended up with eight nominations. DiCaprio and Cotillard deserved nominations, but I'm not too upset since I wasn't expecting it.
Black Swan was pretty much raped, too. It did get notices in Picture, Director, Actress, Editing, and Cinematography; most films would be pleased to get those five nominations. But when you led in Critic's Choice nominations and came second in BAFTA with twelve nominations each time, you expect more. Screenplay, supporting actress (x2), art direction, costume design, sound mixing, and sound editing were cruelly snubbed. Film score was not eligible.
I also have to say, The King's Speech leading in nominations says something; it's the new front-runner, especially if it wins SAG tomorrow night. It's more the Academy's taste than The Social Network and it shows (King's lead with 4 more nominations the Social, while Garfield is snubbed in Supporting Actor).
Random other thoughts:
- Where the freak did the True Grit love appear from? The Academy needs to rub out their love for the Coens and give someone else a chance
- At least True Grit was nice to look at and entertaining to a point, which makes the four-time nominated Winter's Bone the most overrated of the year.
- The Town is snubbed everywhere but Supporting Actor. Wowza. At least they got one nomination right. It should've received Winter's Bone's place in Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
- Michelle Williams, one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood gets in for Best Actress without her much better co-star? Pfft. Swank, Moore, Hathaway, Stone, Roberts, and supporting nominee, Stienfield were better and deserved it more.
- No Ryan Gosling? WTF?
- No DiCaprio or ANYTHING for Shutter Island?
- Conviction is snubbed completely. Critic's Choice nominee, Rockwell and SAG nominee, Swank were miles better than some of the nominees. Not to mention Best Picture.
- I must have misheard, Michael Doulgas in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps couldn't have been snubbed
- Nothing for the early released The Ghost Writer? Wow.

David Letterman contributing to Natalie Portman's Oscar Campaign?
Before just recently for No Strings Attached, two-time Oscar nominee, Natalie Portman has never done many talk shows aside from the hilarious David Letterman. The last week until of this past year Thanksgiving, Portman promoted Black Swan on Letterman's show with a very interesting interview.
Most talk-show hosts, when dealing with current Oscar nominee, praise their certain performance in maybe one or two comments (most notably Ellen). But a few owed recognitions went a long way with Letterman on Portman's stunning performance in Black Swan. It's almost as if they paid him under the table to pound it into the ground. It's the best performance of the year, one of the best and most original character portraits of all-time, so the praise was due, he really made it perfectly clear that the performance should win the Oscar.

DL: The amazing thing is, you get a lot of actors and actresses who get into their movies and motion pictures and think "Oh I should win awards for this," and I looked at this thing and I thought, "Anybody else who thinks they got a shot at being at being nominated or winning an award should just go see this movie, because they aren't even going to be close because-
NP: (embarrassed) Oh thank you, that's very kind. (giggles)
DL: Oh, it's tremendous! The dancing: who would do that? Commit to that.

DL: Then the acting, what do I know about acting? I'll tell you what I know about acting nothing.
(Portman laughs)
DL: But, oh my God. What a tremendous piece of work! It's exciting and scary, and you carry- this movie could be about Gocarting and you'd be good in it. Forget the movie. The movie's crazy, but what you come out of there thinking is "Wow, this woman..." It's transendent what you were able to do. And if you don't win anything, Paul and I will take you to dinner. It's a win-win. You've already been nominated for one Academy Award, you'll win this one easily. I just can't imagine any other actress coming close to this.

DL: Isn't she lovely in that? She's amazing.

SAG Predictions
We are about 2/3 of the 2010 award season completed, this weekend will be the last two big persecutors before the BAFTAs and ultimately, the Oscars. SAG will be the most important. If Portman wins (which I think she will) it will almost solidify her win; if Amy Adams wins over her co-star, the BAFTA-snubbed Melissa Leo, then it'll be safe to say she's the frontrunner.
And the big question everyone is trying to decipher is who will win Best Ensemble? If The King's Speech wins, then it will be officially the front-runner for the top prize. The Social Network could take it as well, just as it swept the critics awards and Globes. Or, big ensembles filled with A-Listers and multiple nominated performance could pick it up, The Fighter or The Kids Are All Right. OR the underdog could win, Black Swan. Who freaking knows!
My choice will be colored, and I have them ranked in the order of likeliness of them winning.

Cruz gives birth!
One of my favorite darlings of Hollywood was revealed to be pregnant after completely her work on the much anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Penélope Cruz, has now supposedly given birth to her child on Monday, alongside newly wed husband, Javier Bardem. The two previously starred together in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Jamon, Jamon.
It's weird how that worked out for Bardem. His child is born the day before he is give the news of his 3rd Oscar nomination. Now, they are both 3-time Oscar nominees, who won a supporting statue the second time around. They are also the first Hispanic man and woman to win Academy Awards.
Congratulations! I love ya Pe

Scream 4 Reshoots in Michigan soon
Scream 2 and Scream 3 both benefited from reshoots after production ended, will Scream 4 follow? Thanks to HelloSidney.com
According to OnLocationVacation:
"One of our readers, Amy, received a filming notice in Northville, MI (on Clement St. between 7 mile and Frederick) for Jan. 31 & Feb. 2 that simply listed a motion picture entitled “Z”.
Anyone who was following the Scream 4 shoot last summer will remember much of the film was shot in Northville under the production name Z. So, it sounds to us like Scream 4 may be returning to Northville to shoot another scene.
If anyone has anymore information or can confirm the shoot is for Scream 4, let us know at olv@onlocationvacations.com! [Thanks to Amy for the tip]"
According to NothvillePatch:
"On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 parts of the film will be re-shot on Clement Street in the township, said Michelle Nabozny, executive secretary to Northville City Manager Patrick Sullivan.
“It’s the same set-up as before,” Nabozny said, “with the Northville Square parking lot as (the) base camp.”
Last summer, Scream 4 was filmed throughout Northville with stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette spotted around town.
The crew will be shooting 14 hours each day during their Northville stay. The filming is expected to be done primarily indoors. It is unclear whether any of the stars will actually be here.
“It could just be lighting and special effects,” she said. “They’re coming back to do some additional suspense and terror for opening sequence.”
