I am both a little surprised and a little "I knew it!" with this subject. Surprised because the first film was closed off so well with no loose ends; this was most likely done because Cameron saw the budget of the first and if the film would've failed, 500 million dollars loss would've been his fault. Not surprised because who didn't think this would be a hit?
My question is, where is Cameron going to take the next to sequels? He's said 2 revolves around water the way the first one dealt with land which excites me! And with that great idea flowing around in the mind of James Cameron, one of the few directors (besides Craven, of course) that can make sequels better than the original (also know as Aliens; in my top 5 favorite films of all-time).
Avatar 2 is scheduled release for 2014, and Avatar 3 for 2015. Apparently they will shoot the two films back-to-back (like the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed) and Cameron is still writing the script. Maybe this time Zoe Saldana can score the Best Actress nod this time around.
One thing I really hope that he improves with the next to is the corny dialogue that was pouring out of the first film. I can take originality, but not dialogue that makes me cringe. If he could've worked a little more on the script, Cameron would've had the 6 Oscars that his ex had last year at the Oscars.
I wonder how much the budget will be for the next 2? A billion for the two combined?
